The PH80 lamp was produced by Louis Poulsen in 1974 in honour of Poul Henningsen, 80 years after his birth year; this is reflected in the name PH 80.
The original PH 80, designed in 1974, has a characteristic red upper reflector that spreads a warm and atmospheric light.
The opal acrylic shades give the lamp a fresh look and radiate a pleasant diffuse light.
The PH 80 was later released in a black and white finish, with the base given a smoother surface
compared to the somewhat rougher surface of the classic PH 80.

The black PH 80 has a black top plate and a white upper reflector for an elegant,
sleek look and a pleasant light distribution.
The base and fitting are matt black and thus provide a beautiful contrast with the opal acrylic shades
for a more graphic look.

The white PH80 has a minimalist design with its white upper reflector, top plate and stand.
The monochrome colour palette is the latest addition to the PH 80 range with modernised and subtle alternatives to the classic PH 80.

Poul Henningsen designed the three-shade system in 1925-26. The first lamps based on this system
were designed by PH in collaboration with Louis Poulsen for an exhibition in Paris.
This partnership continued until his death in 1967.
Poul Henningsen spent his life searching for the creation of glare-free, direct light where it was needed
and soft shadows using incandescent lamps as the light source.
The PH 80 is part of PH’s three-shade series. Poul Henningsen did not just design a lamp, but an entire system;
over the years, some one thousand different models have been produced.
