The well-known CH24 chair by Carl Hansen and Son was designed by Hans Wegner as early as 1949
and has been in continuous production since 1950.
From March 2022, Carl Hansen and Son released a new color every month (except June) from Ilse Crawford's design studio.
About this assignment she says: “Reinterpreting Wegner is a huge honor, and we’ve been very careful
to respect the entire process; the forms are so wonderful, but we wanted to give these chairs an even more
sensual expression, one that is both timeless and timely.”

This CH24 in beech with natural papercord in 9 soft water-based colours, is inspired by art and nature.
Ilse Crawford's new color palette celebrates the more than 70 years of collaboration between Carl Hansen & Søn and Hans J. Wegner.
The powerful and special colors are inspired by the work of the Danish artist Per Kirkeby and thus
a reference to the raw beauty of the Scandinavian landscape.

Combine the CH24 Chair
Due to comfort in combination with beautiful design, the Wishbone Chair, now a design classic, is still very popular.
The precisely thought-out shape of the backrest and the papercord seat, which springs comfortably and ventilates,
make the CH24 a dining room chair that you can sit on at dinner for a long time.
And, the Wishbone Chair is also ideal at the reading table or as a small relaxing armchair.
The softly rounded backrest, the light Y-construction and the hand-woven paper cord offer the chair a variety of comfortable sitting positions.
The very stable and also very light construction of the chair makes it easy to move.

Combine the CH24 Wishbone Chairs with the dining tables by Carl Hansen & Son, the tables by Hans J. Wegner CH327, CH337, CH338, CH339 and CH388 are very suitable.
The Getama dining table GE526 designed by Hans Wegner also matches perfectly.

The papercord seat of the CH24 |
The CH24 Soft Edition comes with a seat in natural papercord.
Papercord is made from pure, unbleached paper.
Hans Wegner chose papercord for comfort and because it is very durable and just as natural as wood.
The "paper twine" is treated with a light wax coating prior to braiding for protection from discoloration and grease.

The CH24 in Beechwood |
The beeches used by Carl Hansen are about 150 years old. Beech is lighter than oak, but heavier than ash.
Beech wood has shorter fibers then oak and is therefore easier to work with.
It has a very smooth texture and if varnished or painted, as with this Soft Edition of the CH24, the fibers will not be visible.

The CH24 is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship with a simple design and clean lines. Despite the uncomplicated look of the chair,
more than 100 steps are needed to produce one chair.

The CH24 is the latest model in a series of chairs designed by Hans Wegner, inspired by old Chinese armchairs.
The characteristic "Y" provides comfortable back support and stability to the "steambent top", and also inspires the names of the chair:
"The Y Chair" or "The Wishbone Chair".
The seat is made of 120 meters of paper cord, it takes the most experienced craftsman at Carl Hansen an hour to weave the CH24 seat.

Hans J. Wegner's CH24

Among the Danish furniture designers, Hans J. Wegner is considered one of the most creative, innovative and productive designers.
Often referred to as the master of the chair, Wegner created nearly 500 chairs during his lifetime, many of them considered masterpieces.
He is probably best known for this iconic Wishbone Chair, which has been continuously produced by Carl Hansen & Son as CH24 since 1950.
